Dave watches for Maxxie's reactions, and slowly smiles in relief when that appears to be good for him. A dumb, fast part of him just wants to be at the whole boyfriend thing already, but he's not an idiot. Neither of them are there yet, and this is the best plan realistically. At the least, it's a start for both of them. One they can be comfortable with, knowing what's on the table without making demands or expectations.
